OPSEU prepares to send solidarity delegation to Colombia.

Following a commitment made at the 2008 Convention to further the solidarity work on Colombia, OPSEU is sending 3 members and 3 staff on a special solidarity tour to Colombia this month. The OPSEU representatives are as follows (from left to right, in the photo above):
  • Sister Jennifer Giroux, Region 6 Executive Board member
  • Brother Jamie Ramage, Chair of the Broader Public Sector (BPS) and Chair, Ambulance Division
  • Sister Brenda Wall, Campaigns Officer
  • Brother Heino Nielsen, Administrator, Policy Planning and programs
  • Sister Archana Mathew, Equity Officer
  • Brother Yhony Munoz, member of OPSEU Local 256 in the Ambulance Division
The group will be visiting with members and leaders of many different unions and community groups as well as human rights organizations, indigenous groups, progressive politicians and the Canadian embassy in Bogota. Consistent with our support for unions and social justice organizations in Colombia, one of our messages is very clear - that the Canada Colombia Free Trade Agreement should not be ratified under current conditions in that country.
